Espelette is in the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains conveniently located half an hour to the ocean towns of Biarritz, Bayonne, St Jean de Luz and 45 minutes to San Sebastian in Spain and close to lots of hiking and the natural beauty of Pays Basque.

🌶️ Piment d’Espelette (Espelette pepper) is officially in Slow Food’s Ark of Taste. Slow Food lists it as Ezpeletako Biperra, traditionally produced around Espelette in the French Basque Country.

There is a Michelin star restaurant in the village. Espelette is often called the most iconic village of the inland Pays Basque. It is a place where charm and tradition come alive with whitewashed buildings adorned with red and green shutters, and strings of vibrant Espelette peppers drying in the sun.

The closest airports are Biarritz (via Paris) or San Sebastian (via Madrid). There is also a TGV train from Paris to Bayonne / Biarritz. Not available in July / August.
